Phantom Steed by Escaron Phantom Steed by Escaron
From The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time I present the Forest Temple boss Phantom Ganon. Although as you can see the rider is missing - he fell of in a snow heap some hundred yards ago. That the poor horse turned into a phantom is no wonder, he has no way to breath! No holes for the nostrils! I mean seriously Ganon, what were you thinking? No wonder he wanted to get Epona later...

This is another contribution for the Swedish game-art exhibition "Hjärta Spel".
And you wanna know something awesome? I got in! With all the pieces I sent! This one, Armogohma, My Piranha Plant, Suicune and Giant Spider from Resident Evil 3 (will upload later). I even got to represet the whole exhibition with my art, on their home page, and in their blog! I feel so crazily happy and honoured right now!!! I could jump up and down on the spot! In fact I think Im gonna do that just now. Excuse me~ :happybounce:

This was a project I started years ago but never finished.... until now. Yay!
Phantom Steed is made out of wire, paper lamination and window putty that I sand-papered forever and then painted black. The armor, ears, mane and tail are made in super sculpy painted with acrylics. He is on a wooden stand usualy, but in this pic its magically gone. ;)

Height: 26 cm
Lenght: 38 cm
Width: 9 cm

The level of detail you put into this sculpture is phenomenal, I love that you set it up out in the snow, perfect for display! I really get the feeling of motion when looking at this one, great job!

Wow! :wow: that sounds really cool! It reminds me of this artist we studied in class who takes pictures of big commercial signs and edits out the poles so they look like they're floating! He's actually gotten requests from companies to make "floating signs" for them!

Really!? :wow: Thats kinda... well its great for him that he can make money out of it. XDDD And if the company really want a floating sign, why not? Hahahahhaha.

"That the poor horse turned into a phantom is no wonder, he has no way to breath! No holes for the nostrils! I mean seriously Ganon, what were you thinking?" made me fall over laughing. so did "he fell of in a snow heap some hundred yards ago." haha and his horse never thought to stop :XD:

one thing i noticed is "Dark Lord Gannondorf" is gannondorf's full name. when he turns into a boar, he's called "Ganon" so shouldn't that mean Phantom ganon should be a boar? XD

Hahahahha, well considering his rider killed him by suffocation its not so wierd that the poor horse never looked around. I think he was more like "Freeeeeeeeeeedooooooooom!!!!!" XDDDDD

Yeah I know! Ive been wondering about that forever. Since I played aLttP, because since then I know his real name is Ganondorf when he is the wizard and Ganon when he turn into the boar as you say... so yeah, why did they name the boss Phantom Ganon? It doesnt make sense.

haha yes :D phantom is rearing in joy. now he just needs to head over to lon lon ranch where he shall receive lots of love from malon :D it really is no wonder he wanted epona later XD his horse wasn't even alive!

it was probably becuase " evil spirit from beyond phantom Gannondorf" is pretty long. i guess in the end he would have been nicknamed "phantom ganon" anyway, but still...

XDD Exactly. Hahahah. Although I wonder where Ganondorf got a horse with red mane... or if he dyed it... animal cruelty!!! Not that its any worse than suffocating the horse but... still... :stare: XD Im betting he wanted to go to such a beauty contest with his horse, and then he didnt win agains a pink unicorn and therefore he decided to get evil and ruin all of Hyrule instead! I bet he wanted the triforce to make all beauty contests claim him the winner!!! :iconyesvictoryplz: XD

Haha, yeah you may be totally right in that. But still yeah... wrooooong. :giggle:

apparently his horse is a pure-bred gerudo stallion. its as if he wanted to go to the horse version of crufts so he made sure he had a rare breed XD (but no matter what type of horse phantom is, horses do NOT have glowing eyes XD unless he got his horse contacts :giggle: even more animal cruelty! :stare: )
haha he would use the triforce of wisdom to find out how to win and get first place. can you even imagine gannondorf in a horse beauty contest? :XD: he's so mad because link always scores a place above him. plus he never wins because his horse terrifies the judges :D

yup :D on the topic of Ganon, gannondorf and link both have beast forms (boar, and wolf) and are both holders of the triforce. does that mean zelda has one? or is it just a coincidence? i wondered about that.

In other words, Ganondorf is a really cruel fella. I could never have guessed. XD ;P He also never win any contests because his horse is dead. Because its simply no way he could through that head armorpiece. :stare. XD Maybe he has stuffed the horse and drag it around on a slay or something. ;P

Weeeeell Link has actyally 2 beast forms, a wolf and a pink bunny (aLttP) and Ive aaaalways wondered about that. Why does he turn ito a bunny!? It says that with the Moon Pearl people turn into their true selves.... so Link is a bunny then... a pink bunny. XD Does that mean he is soft inside?

Dun dun DUUUNNNNN (massive plot-twist) who knew?! :ohnoes:
i wonder, since his horse is dead that makes it either a zombie or a ghost. and if its a ghost, as phantom ganon suggests then he shouldn't be able to ride it would he? surely it wouldn't be solid, as its ethereal and that would mean he wouldn't be able to sit on it. and if its a zombie, then thats just weird.

Two?! XD link turns into a bunny or a wolf... imagine if twilight princess had link as a rabbit. hyrule would be doomed. pink rabbits cant save zelda from zant or gannondorf.

i agree. i know rabbits are thought be as kind and gentle and link is kind and sort of gentle but a wolf makes a bit more sense than...a pink rabbit. (did it really have to be pink?)

In the game both the horse and Phantom Ganon are shadows of Ganondorf himself and his horse. Its suppose to be that he created them. :la:

I can totally imagen that. XDDD Not the saving though. Hahaha. And as a bunny he cant use any of his weapns just run around. And the pink part is just... pink. :faint. XD

Looks wicked with the armour plating, the crest on the side, the evil red eyes and the flaming mane and tail.

And CONGRATULATIONS! :iconrainbowsqueeplz: To hear you got your artwork into that exhibition is absolutely wonderful to hear! It seems pretty clear that your crafts(wo)manship is to be respected throughout the art community. Well done on getting the well-deserved recognition, I couldn't think of anybody who deserves the honour more... even if I do get attacked by spiders on a regular basis.

Awesome work once again, and all the best to you with that exhibition! =)

Well certainly they've created the original design that has inspired many to recreate it... but with your design, it's easy to say you'll inspire plenty more people to give it a try.

Hey, I've followed your work and gotten to know you well for quite a few months, all from a tarantula sculpture in fact... And sure you may deal with the macabre and truly horrifying creatures of the world, but truly you're a wonderful person to converse with. I have a lot of respect for someone like that, let me make that clear.

Finally, you are welcome. Have a good one. =)

He's beautful! Nice detail!

Have you ever considered attempting something like this with real horse hair? I have a paltry little Epona sculpture I did once where the key gimmick was the use of some actual horse mane/tail bits I collected from the farm I was working on at the time.

Great idea! I havnt though about it with horse hair but with my own. :giggle: Ive been riding my whole life except the last 3 years (I wanna do it again!) and so I cant get any horse hair anywhere... I dont think my local stable would like if I sneaked in and took their horses hairs. XD ;P

My Epona: [link]

It happened to be shaving-day / grooming day at the barn when I got the hair.

Sadly, I no longer work there. Some complicated issues came up. I never got to ride, I was just the poo-remover person.

You're welcome! And the bus ride sounds absolutely horrendous. The train ride may not be so bad though; You might actually have fun sitting and talking with other artists about their creations. I'm sure it won't be so bad. I wish you luck!!!

If it had been other artists it would have been great! Although this is such a train that all people go with... if you ever have seen the busses and trains in Japan, how full they are, then that is a great picture of how it is here. if I get to sit I will be happy... if nothing breaks before I arrive I will be over-friggin-joyed!!! Haha, but Im trying to get someone to drive there instead. :D

Thank you! I will need that luck! :giggle:

Lets just say I was veeeerry afraid during those 15 minutes of baking, just waititng for it to explode out of the heat or crack apart, but it held!!! :la:
